Wedding Dress: Music Vid

Song Critique of the week: Wedding Dress by TaeYang

*Review of Music Video*

I'm not really a huge fan of K-Pop (Korean Pop music) but Wedding Dress is a pretty catchy song even though I cant understand the majority of the song.
The overall it is about a guy who is heartbroken over the fact that he lost his chance to be with this girl who he fell head over heels for. She is now getting married and he feels alone and remembers their greatest times together and the times where he could have asked her to be his.

You can tell that from the start of the music video that the song is very heartfelt. The beginning when TaeYang is sitting on the piano bench looking frustrated with his his hands hover over the keys while reminiscing of his time with her this shows how much he feels for this one girl.
One of the most powerful parts of the music video is at the end when he flashes back to when he approached her at a gallery and gets her alone and begins to try to tell her how he feels but he is interrupted by her boyfriend who is later revealed to now be her fiancé, when he placed an engagement ring on her finger. Then he's back to reality and he's at her wedding, he looks at her from afar and realizes just how happy she is. Then he takes out an engagement ring that was obviously meant for her, he was going to propose to her the day that he confessed his feelings for her. Now that he sees her truly happy with another man, he lets go and the ring slips from his fingertips and slowly lands on the floor and the sound that the ring makes when it lands on the floor echoes symbolizing how empty and alone he is and the fact that he finally let her go.

The only part of the song any English speaker would understand would be the part when he says the title "wedding dress" and when he sings "...baby you should be my lady". Since the song is not entirely in English it lets listeners pay more attention to the overall message of the song.

The beat and tempo are really catchy and the overall feeling of the song is very emotional and sentimental. Notice that in every time he is alone the scene is very black and white which reflects how he feels for losing the one girl that brought color into his life.

One of the major issues with the music video for me is that I couldn't understand what he was saying for the majority of the song... so most of the time I was lost. But I could still follow the plot. If Tae Yang was singing in english then it would be the perfect music video for me.

Wedding Dress by Tae Yang

99% of the songs in my playlist is in English. I usually don't enjoy listening to songs that are in a different language. Well...that's because I don't know what the heck the singer is talking about. I don't know if you guys have heard of this song, Wedding Dress by Tae Yang, but I think this song is pretty snappy. Actually, I have no reasons why I like to listen to this song. I just do. I just can't understand anything except for the words "Baby" "Cuz you should be my lady" "Wedding Dress" and "Oh No".

There is also another version of Wedding Dress that is in English.
Check it out. (I like the English version better than the Korean version.)

There is another English version of Wedding Dress, but its not the exact translation at all. They just changed the words and made it their own.

Unconditionally. Two Words: Visually Breathtaking.

Unconditionally by Katy Perry

~critique on music video~

Usually, I don't like to listen to Katy Perry songs. I am not a big fan of her songs. But her music video on Unconditionally has made me stop and think twice about my decision.

Visually, the first 20 seconds into the music video is very intimate. What made the video start off even more intimate was the fresh beat. My reaction was "What is that unique sound? It actually sounds like a slow, steady heart beat."

Then after the 20 seconds, you can hear tribal drums beating along with all the other sounds. Yes, I was totally digging this. I also was not expecting this...at all...because this is not something you would hear in modern music. Usually we would hear guitar strums, piano music, violin, modern drums, trumpets (okay that was random but you get the point)... anything but tribal drums in modern music. Katy Perry has brought something that is traditional and made it modernly fresh.

But that's not all.

My first time watching the music video, I was captured and drawn by the dramatic yet soft movements of the people dancing around Katy. There were slow and fast movements of the arms, hands, face, head, and body of each dancer in the music video. So many visual things were happening that I didn't even know what Katy Perry was singing about. All I could think was, "Niceeeee" "Woah, what happened there?"  "What did I just see...?"

And because the music video is so awesome, I decided to watch the whole music video AGAIN and try to connect what I had just seen with the lyrics of the song "Unconditionally".

One of my favorite ideal moments in the music video was when Katy Perry's body is cover in flames and when a HUMONGOUS car smashes into her. Does she fall? No. She doesn't. She withstands that hit (which is not possible) to show...how strong her love is for that person?

RATE: Visually BreathtakIN.

Unconditionally in love with this song

SONG CRITIQUE OF THE WEEK: Unconditionally by Katy Perry                     *critique on lyrics*

"Unconditionally I will love you unconditionally..."

I always loved Katy Perry's songs and this one has to be my favorite. The second song off her new album PRISM, unconditionally, which is also rumored to be based on John Mayer, is a beautiful piece written about letting go and opening up to love again. Unconditionally is one of those songs where you could slow dance to and where you could share a meaningful moment with your other half.
I am not surprised that this song was ranked this week in the top 20 songs. But I am surprised that it's not in the top ten because I believe that this is one of her best songs yet. The meaning of the song goes into a deeper level with the sincere lyrics:

“Come just as you are to me
Don’t need apologies
Know that you are worthy
I’ll take your bad days with your good
Walk through this storm I would
I’d do it all because I love you, I love you”

“Acceptance is the key to be
To be truly free
Will you do the same for me?”

The lyrics actually mean that she truly wants to love him despite his flaws and she confesses her unconditional love to him but in the end its up to him to decide to love again and to let her in or not.

RATE: I definitely would rank this an IN for me

LYRIC VID:

Call Me Maybe? Maybe. :)

Lets get this straight. There are people who think that Call Me Maybe is an annoying "old" song.  Every song is not bound to get 100% like. Honestly, I still have Call Me Maybe in my playlist and often at times I like to listen to it on repeat. In my opinion, Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen is a very catchy, steady upbeat song. Because it is very catchy and repetitive with the "Call Me Maybe", it kind of makes me want to dance to the song and blurt out "CALL ME MAYBE....MISS YOU SO SO BAD" (true story).

This song has a carefree "whatever" kind of mood. I think children and teens will be able to relate and connect to this carefree kind of song. Call Me Maybe may be an "old" song but, honestly, I don't care. I don't care if a song is old or not. What matters is what the listener is getting from the song. Who cares if the lyrics have any deep meaning. What's important is that this song gives off an energetic vibe, not to only me but, I'm pretty sure, to other people as well.

RATE: I would say that Call Me Maybe is DEFINITELY an IN for me. What's your opinion?

Lyric Video:

Um how about don't call me maybe ...

SONG CRITIQUE OF THE WEEK: Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen

First off the song title is just asking for it. Call Me Maybe is an indecisive title, the girl cant make up her mind on whether or not she wants this guy to call her.... but she still gives him her number.

Overall I think the song is just one of those fifteen minutes of fame songs.
Why was it at number 1 on iTunes anyway? I think that songs that have more meaning than this song should be #1 on the iTunes charts. From personal experience I think that after hearing it so many times on the radio it gets annoying really fast. Every time I hear it on the radio or on Pandora I immediately change the station because I can't bear to hear it again and waste three minutes of my time.

It is so annoying that it has so many people making fun of the lyrics:

"Hey I just met you. And this is crazy. I just did bath salts, and
your face looks tasty."

"Hey, I just met you
And this is crazy,
What's brands your make-up
Crayola maybe?"

RATE: I would say that Call Me Maybe is an OUT for me.

Welcome to our blog 2

Hello ...there
This is the second Jenny here. I am almost like the other Jenny except I'm not as "musically gifted" but we do share the same passion for music. I am here to share my thoughts and criticism on certain songs each week... and yes I am also a picky person when it comes to music. I usually find all the flaws about the song first but it usually takes a lot for me to really hate a song.
I think the main reason why I chose to have a blog based on music is because music will always be there for me.
I know it may sound a little cheesy and cliche but I think it speaks for almost everyone who loves music:

Welcome to our blog =3

Welcome. Welcome. Welcome

Lemme introduce myself. My name is Jenny. I love listening to music and I'm BIT picky when it comes to liking a particular song.  Oh yea, I play guitar, piano, AND I sing. :3  But enough about me, as you can see, this blog is about music. Every week, my friend, also named Jenny (Har-Har), and I will have a sweet and sour discussion about a certain song every now and then. NOW, we will voice our negative and positive opinion on each song we choose and decide if its IN or OUT with the help from YOU.  Yes. Yes. Yes. We would like you to voice out your opinion and decide if a song is
 IN or OUT.
